Heavy D & The Boyz
Heavy D & The Boyz were an American hip hop group from Mount Vernon, New York, formed in 1987. The group consisted of lead rapper Heavy D (Dwight Arrington Myers), G-Whiz (Glen Parrish), and dancers Trouble T-Roy (Troy Dixon) and Eddie F (Edward Ferrell). The group was signed to Uptown Records and was one of the first rap groups to be signed to a major record label. They were also one of the first rap groups to have a music video played on MTV.
The group was known for their upbeat, positive lyrics and their use of live instrumentation in their music. They were also known for their collaborations with other artists, including Janet Jackson , Michael Jackson, and Boyz II Men . The group disbanded in 1996 after the death of Trouble T-Roy, but Heavy D continued to have a successful solo career until his death in 2011. Heavy D & The Boyz were inducted into the Hip Hop Hall of Fame in 2012.
