Pebbles
Pebbles is the visionary force who helped define the high-gloss, rhythmic intersection of pop and R&B during the late 1980s and early 1990s. Making an explosive entrance in 1987 with her self-titled debut, she delivered the global smash “Girlfriend,” a track that showcased her signature blend of street-smart attitude and polished dancefloor appeal. Produced by L.A. Reid and Babyface , this collaboration laid the groundwork for what would become the dominant “LaFace” sound, positioning Pebbles as a key architect in the shift toward the New Jack Swing era.
The 1990–1992 window saw Pebbles reach a creative and commercial zenith with her sophomore album, Always. The project produced the iconic chart-topper “Giving You the Benefit,” a masterclass in rhythmic production and melodic precision. During this time, her influence expanded far beyond her own recordings; as a shrewd businesswoman, she discovered and managed the legendary trio TLC, shaping the sound of one of the most successful girl groups in history. Though she later shifted her focus to ministry, her legacy in the archive is that of a definitive trendsetter - an artist and mogul who bridged the gap between the 80s funk-pop era and the soulful, hip-hop-infused dominance of the 90s.
